Call It What You Will

 January 1, 2009

Happy New Years everybody! I'm sorry I don't have a flashy New Years outfit to post, but last night I preclosed meaning I got out of work at 7pm and I opened this morning at work meaning being there at 4:30am.  So... I went to bed at 10pm.  Don't be too sad for me though, because today was time and a half and I had a really chill morning at work and a customer even gave me $50 for a late Christmas present! Wow.  So it was totally worth it!  Every cent, by the way, is going to my Macbook.   Aren't you proud of me?  I'm so close that it is killing me!

Because we weren't able to ring in the New Year together (Patrick picked up a shift at work.. my work technically, at the restaurant I hostess at every Friday night.. he occasionally picks up dish washing shifts to make some extra money), we spend the whole afternoon together.  First, we kind of lazed around my house and then since we were feeling extra lazy, we just went to Mt. Trashmore to take pictures.  Mt. Trashmore is literally RIGHT next to my house.. the lake runs through my backyard.  It was created by compacting layers of solid waste and clean soil.  It's really amazing actually.  I have so many memories as a kid playing in the playground.   If any of you are ever in Virginia Beach, be sure to check out Mt. Trashmore.

Patrick and I were just discussing what to call this post.  I asked for his help and lately I've kinda been digging using song titles as titles.  What do you think?  It works for me since Patrick is a singer/ songwriter and music is such a huge part of our lives.. the only time we ever travel is to see shows.  I suppose I should start putting the artist as well on the bottom of my page?  Anyways,  I didn't even tell him I like to use song titles, and we were talking about the birds in the above picture.. I made the mistake of calling them geese and Patrick informed me that they were ducks.  (His grandfather is a bird aficionado, I should have known better.)  Anyways, we got around to talking about Joe Pug's "Call It What You Will" and the line: "I hear a blue heron crying..Some folks just call it a bird."  Really interesting perspective.  Listen to him if you ever get a chance, his lyrics are always so thought provoking.. and we are seeing him in March!

I realize that on my Christmas post, I didn't do a close up of the necklace Patrick got me, so here you go!  I'm so in love with it..!

For lunch, we were craving Pho 79, which is our local pho joint.  If you've never had pho or Vietnamese spring rolls.. you are missing out.  We eat there at least once a week and I swear it's better every time.  Again, if you come to Virginia Beach (cough Tieka), Pho 79 is a MUST.

  13. The food looks delicious and I really like your boots and necklace.
P.S. I'm sure you know this, but WA does rain ALOT. Oregon is similar to WA too, not that I'm trying to turn you off of WA, but it's another option. I do think the NW can't be beat for scenery...except maybe Alaska, but I don't think I could take the cold or the darkness. :)
